London’s Big Read spotlights talented London authors whose books have significant relevance for London’s multicultural society today. We will showcase a shortlist of books each year under themes that express the diversity of this great city.
London’s Big Read was launched in 2018 and ran from March to September. The theme was Diversity and the winner was June Sarpong for her book Diversify.
The theme for the new edition 2019 is Female Empowerment.
This initiative is supported by LIBRARY Members Club and publishers through provision of books for our outreach program and supports The Children’s Literacy Charity and Ndoro Children’s Charities. Our outreach program through the year long campaigning will extend to universities, schools and local libraries to build on activities of the 2018 edition that linked up with 19 such institutions. We will also reach out to book clubs across the capital to get involved.
We hope that through the London’s Big Read, Londoners will be inspired to discover a world of books and each other.
